Omaha Hi Lo Poker (8s or better)
- The Widow
The composition of the widow is determined by the probability
distribution of five cards taken from the 52 card deck.
After the full widow has been exposed you can depend
on the following:
50% of the time it will contain at least one pair.
This makes trips in the final hand a distinct possibility
80% of the time it will contain three or more cards
to a straight.
40% of the time it will contain three or more cards
to a flush.
Because in Omaha the likelihood of getting a winning
hand is much greater than that of Holdem, it is essential
to strive for the best hand made possible by the widow
cards, because if you don’t, someone else will.
The remembering and application of the following guidelines
should go someway to helping you achieve this.
4. Whenever there is a pair in the widow, one or more
full houses is likely to be present, particularly if
the pair shows on the flop. Indeed the possibilities
of two or more full houses is great enough that lower
full houses are in danger of being second best.
5. A three-card straight means that the right two-card
holding will complete the straight. In seven man Omaha,
42 different couples are created by the deal. With 42
different card combinations among the holdings, completing
any straight that the widow makes possible is likely,
particularly if it looked promising on the flop.
6. 3. A three-card flush in the widow makes a flush
likely.
