Omaha Hi Lo Poker (8s or better)
- Cards speak
Unlike hi/lo games with fewer cards, there is not always
the requirement for a player to declare whether they
are going for the high hand, low hand or both hands
in Omaha 8 or better.
This approach is known as cards speak. The name is
a simple way of saying, “let the cards speak for
themselves.”
The best high hand and the best low hand are determined
by the showdown and the pot is then split. It is possible
for a single player’s hand to be the best in both
directions. The entire pot can therefore be scooped
by one player.
In cards speak you don’t have to worry about
mis-declaring a hand that would have won in the other
direction, and you don’t have to weigh the risks
of losing everything in order to have a chance to scoop
the pot when you feel sure of winning in one direction,
but are merely a possible winner in the other.
