Omaha Hi Lo Poker (8s or better)
Omaha eight or better is a split pot game. The best
high hand wins half the pot, and the best low hand wind
the other half, as long as the low hands consist of
five cards of different ranks, with no card being higher
than an eight. Straights and flushes are ignored for
low hand, but the ace can be used as the lowest card.
It is possible to win both the high and the low hands
– known as scooping the pot – and this is
the primary objective when playing this game.
As in regular Omaha, you must use two cards from your
hand and three cards from the board. However, your high
hand can be a different five-card combination from that
used to make you low hand.
Bear in mind that it is not always possible to create
both a low hand and a high hand. Sometimes you can only
play for either the high hand or the low hand.
If you and another Player tie on a hand, you both win
a quarter of the pot. This is known as the pot being
quartered.
Example:
Player A wins the high hand and Players B and C tie
for the low hand. The pot is £10. Player A receives
£5 and Players B and C receive £2.50 each.
